After Qitian

The Great Sage Equal to Heaven died once. When he woke again, Flower-Fruit Mountain had already been through a fire. The monkeys called him their king. An old monkey guarded a secret he refused to speak of, while Guanyin looked at him as if he were an old friend she had not seen in years. He remembered his name was Sun Wukong. But he couldn't remember how he had become the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. Nor could he remember why the Bull Demon King had stood outside Flower-Fruit Mountain for several nights in a row, yet refused to enter. It was only when Heaven sealed Flower-Fruit Mountain again, searching for an old gate buried beneath the mountain, that things began to make sense. The old monkey told him, “Don't remember.” The Bull Demon King told him, “Don't open the gate.” And the person behind it said just one thing to him: “This time, don't choose me again.”
