Nine-Colored Lotus Blossom

The story begins with an imperial marriage decree. He Yao, daughter of the hereditary garrison commander of Dengzhou, is ordered to marry Xiao Cheng, the legitimate son of a Duke's mansion. He entered the Dao as a child, and no one knows what he looks like or what kind of person he is. Unwilling to be bound by fate, she plans carefully and sets out boldly under the assumed name He Hui, traveling alone to Kunlun to see for herself whether this is a life worth entrusting to him. From then on, the two embark on the path to immortality together. She has no idea that this aloof, taciturn senior fellow disciple harbors an ancient secret spanning twenty thousand years, one even he has never discovered.

In his previous life, Xiao Cheng was Donghuang Taiyi, born from a nine-colored, thousand-petaled lotus between the three islands of Penglai, above the East Sea's Guixu. He was born without the seven emotions and six desires, and assisted the ancient Heavenly Emperor in bringing peace to the Three Realms. But his neglect of the myriad living beings and his arbitrary ways sparked a war among the gods. As the Three Realms collapsed, the primordial Yinglong Qi Ying gave her life to protect him, and the two entered the mortal world together to undergo tribulation.

Across twenty thousand years of changing fortunes, Taiyi endured countless tribulations, repaired his primordial spirit, and completed his seven emotions. He once cultivated to become an immortal under the Daoist title Donghua, but his capacity for love remained incomplete. He fell into the mortal realm once more and, after several reincarnations, was born into the Xiao clan of Lanling. The junior sister He Hui, who braves the snow to seek a master at Kunlun, is none other than Qi Ying reincarnated. Bound by their past lives, the two meet by chance and complete one another, opening the road back to the divine realm. They travel between the mortal and immortal worlds, tempering their character amid the entanglements of fate. They engrave propriety, righteousness, loyalty, filial piety, trust, and integrity into their very bones, and put into practice the way of cultivating oneself, bringing order to one's family, governing the world, and bringing peace to all under heaven. They live by Confucianism and return to their true nature through Daoism, uniting the two traditions of Qilu.

After trials of missed chances and protection, the two finally stand by each other's side. When Taiyi and Qi Ying have completed their cultivation and return to their divine positions in their true forms, they usher in a new age ruled by two gods, safeguarding the Three Realms' lasting peace and prosperity.
