Synopsis

Pei Zhuo, heir to the Duke of Jin, is cool, aloof, and proud, looking down on everyone. He is the man every noblewoman in the capital would do anything to marry. Yun Fu is the maidservant the old madam forced on him. She is beautiful, gentle, and obedient. For once, Pei Zhuo takes a woman to heart. He frees her from her servant status, gets her travel papers, and lets her enjoy a life of wealth beyond imagining. Looking at the sweet, well-behaved young woman, Pei Zhuo even promises to make her his concubine. Who could have guessed that this little maid has such high ambitions? She refuses to be a concubine, trapped in a gilded cage. Even carrying his child, she dares to secretly save money so she can leave the estate! Only then does he realize Yun Fu has no heart at all. Her frailty and meekness are nothing but a means of deceiving men. Pei Zhuo is enraged. That very night, he leads men out of the city in pursuit and corners her at a ferry crossing. Seeing soldiers charging toward her in full armor, Yun Fu trembles, tears in her eyes. The man approaches at an unhurried pace and grips her face, tightening his hold. “Since you refuse to be my concubine, how about I make you my legal wife?” [Possessive pursuit + faking her death + a groveling chase + obsessive descent into darkness]
