Monument on the Solitary Island: Tian Heng's Five Hundred Scholars

At the end of the Chu-Han War, the Han army captured Jimo. The young Qi Mu lost his family and traveled across the ocean alone to the island where Tian Heng lived in seclusion. The island gathered more than 400 Qi people who did not want to submit to the Han Dynasty. Life on the isolated island is difficult, and everyone has different opinions: the military commander Tian Bo is dedicated to preparing for war, and would rather fight bloody battles than bow his head; the scholar Zhang Shuli hopes to submit and only wants the people to live in peace. Tian Heng is caught in the middle, leading everyone to fish and open up wasteland and live a stable life, while shouldering all the pressure alone. Qi Mu learned to carve stones from the old man on the island, intending to use bluestone to record everyone's stories and preserve the roots of Qi people. The imperial court sent troops to block the sea, and constantly sent people to persuade Tian Heng to surrender. They promised Tian Heng high-ranking officials generous salaries, but in fact they wanted to force him to surrender. In order to save the lives of more than 400 people on the island, Tian Heng went to Luoyang alone. Qi Mu was worried and followed him all the way. He saw with his own eyes that Tian Heng refused to kneel to Liu Bang and committed suicide in the corpse town, leaving a suicide note for everyone on the island. Qi Mu returned to the island with Tian Heng's sword and suicide note. As the news spread, people on the island were in chaos. Some people planned to escape to the sea, while others were unwilling to leave this habitat. Qi Heng kept Tian Heng's instructions in mind, came to the huge bluestone on the seaside, and carved words with his knife day after day. He put Tian Heng's loyalty, the suffering of the people in troubled times, and the joys and sorrows of everyone on the isolated island into stone moment by moment. The story is based on the classic historical allusion of Qilu, Tian Heng's Five Hundred Scholars, with the young man carving monuments as the main line, restoring the choices and perseverance of ordinary people in troubled times, and deeply exploring the spiritual context of Qilu that is strong-willed, responsible and caring for the common people. It uses delicate island portraits to show the character of Qilu that never bends.
