Practicing Martial Arts Keeps Three Generations Poor

Ye is a martial artist. Other people rely on talent to train; he relies on hunger. One bite of spirit rice fills other people up, but he needs ten bites. And ten bites for him would fill someone else up with just one. His body is a bottomless bucket: no matter how much you pour in, it all leaks out. So his cultivation method is simple: pick up what others leave uneaten, throw away, or don't want, cook it, eat it, and then take a beating. He has a friend named Zhao Banshun, who gets full after half a meal and always saves his spare half-bun for him. He has a friend named Sun Tieguo, whose cultivation method is taking beatings. He begs people to hit him every day, but nobody will. He has a friend named Zhou Xiaoman, who doesn't eat and just meditates. Once in a while, he leaves Ye a bowl of cold rice water. He has a friend named Ma Daha, who can tell if something is poisonous just by smelling it, but can't eat it himself. The five of them stick together for one reason: nobody else wants to hang out with them. They're always broke, always hungry, and always doing stupid things. But they've always got one another. Martial arts impoverish your descendants for three generations; eating ruins your whole life. But you still have to eat.
