Wordless Monument at the Mouth of the Yellow River

In the first year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, twenty years after the Yellow River changed its course to Shandong, sediments were constantly creating new land at the mouth of the sea. Young surveyor Shen Yanhe was ordered to measure the new silt, but he found an unmarked monument and footprints leading to a lost village on a piece of mud that did not exist yesterday. He got a strange river map: write down the place names, and the forgotten roads, houses, and tombs will reappear; erase the place names, and the people living there will gradually disappear from the inventory, deeds, and even the memories of relatives. In order to clear his father's charge of "fleeing before battle," Shen Yanhe teams up with Su Lu, a boatman girl who can remember missing names by using Yellow River chants, to investigate, only to find that someone is preparing to erase the last village from the map. The flood season is approaching and only one side of the causeway can be saved. When saving the majority must come at the cost of forgetting the minority, is it the land they want to protect, or the people who have lived on the land?
