That Slope

"That Slope" is a story about growing up across the Loess Plateau to the shores of the Yellow Sea. In the small county town of Longdong in the 1990s, a young man was defeated twice by greed in his heart, leaving him with a long-lasting guilt; eight brothers on the Loess Plateau were scattered by the torrent of the times, ups and downs, life and death, and each has his own destination. There are no legends of sudden wealth, only the struggles, regrets and introspection of ordinary people. Traveling all the way from the comic book stall in elementary school, across the changes in urban and rural areas, I met all kinds of people along the way: a stubborn father, classmates who had a rough fate, and family members who were scattered around. It takes me half a lifetime to look back and realize that the hardest thing to climb in life is never the mountain road, but the slope in the heart.
