His Year

This is a traditional realist rural novel, with the life of ordinary farmer Chen Chengyi as the core of the narrative. The story takes root in the Qinjiazhuang in the mountains of Sichuan and Guizhou. The protagonist has made a living as a tenant farmer for generations. The book slowly unfolds along the three lines of war, famine, and changes of the times. It abandons grand narratives and relies on the daily livelihood and joys and sorrows of farmers to depict the complete life trajectory of the bottom farmers who persevere and live hard in the torrent of the times.
