Spring Wind in Shreds

Reborn for a second time, Nian Chuju realizes that money alone isn’t enough; she needs power too! She dumps her loser fiancé and decides to marry into the imperial family. She picks a short-lived prince for a husband. While he’s alive, she can borrow his influence. If he dies, she’ll still be a princess consort. A surefire deal! Sounds great!

At their first meeting, Dongli Chang’an is thin as a sheet of paper, looking like he could die at any moment. Nian Chuju is very satisfied. Who knew the short-lived fellow wouldn’t cooperate?

“You should leave. I’m dying soon, so I can’t help you.”

Nian Chuju nods. “When you die, I’ll take care of your funeral.”

Dongli Chang’an: “...”

Nian Chuju keeps trying to convince him. “If nothing else, I’ll burn incense and paper offerings for you on the first and fifteenth of every month, so you can live comfortably in the afterlife. How about it?”

Dongli Chang’an turns away, eyes red. This world is full of schemers. Is there not a single decent person?

Nian Chuju looks at the two dogs lying nearby. “I’ll take care of your dogs too, until they die of old age.”

Dongli Chang’an is finally tempted. “Well, all right.”

Later, the new emperor corners her beneath the vermilion palace walls, the fire of unspoken passion burning in his eyes.

“You can have the throne. Just take care of me for the rest of my life!”

The Empress’s declaration: The fate I want to change is one where the granaries of the realm are always full and cooking smoke never ceases; where women stand tall and proud, never falling behind men; where children are born into the light and grow up in peaceful times, walking the righteous path all their lives.
