Beneath the Ashes

It took Lin Xiao ten years to understand what that fire had destroyed. It hadn’t just destroyed Xu Yao. It had destroyed every version of himself he might have become after the age of fourteen. Was he ever forgiven? No. Xu Yao’s parents wouldn’t forgive him. The school wouldn’t. Xu Yao’s best friend wouldn’t. In the end, not even Lin Xiao could forgive himself. The only person willing to believe him, Song Qianyu, died unexpectedly, drawing him once more into the cycle of fate. Ten years later, Lin Xiao wields the law as a weapon, approaching the perpetrators one by one. He wants them to know that some debts follow you for a lifetime. But standing at the finish line of his revenge, he hesitates. He’s afraid of betraying the faith Song Qianyu placed in him all those years ago. At last, he understands: true judgment has never taken place in a courtroom.
