During the Wanli period, something happened to the Ling family, a tea merchant of the Bai ethnic group. The tea was stolen and the family was in ruins. Twenty-five-year-old Ling Shaochuan sold his family property, took his ancestral deerskin map and a team of mules and horses, and embarked on the dangerous Tea Horse Road.
