[Palace Intrigue + Sweet Romance + Wrongful Marriage] The latest historical romance by Li Zi, Shining Golden Bough. Yuan Ying, the Duke’s legitimate daughter, was once the envy of all as the Crown Prince’s future bride. But a marriage contract forced her to wed a streetwise rogue instead. To protect her family’s reputation, she planned to treat her roguish husband with mutual respect while keeping her distance. But her husband’s younger uncle, Song Yan, was a promising young man who enjoyed the emperor’s favor, and he always stood up for her. When her mother-in-law made things difficult for her, he sorted it out. When her husband wanted to take a second wife of equal standing, he put a stop to it. When the emperor grew wary that the Duke’s family had become too powerful, Song Yan defended them before the court. He handed over all his private property for her to manage, and let her come and go and live wherever she pleased in the General’s residence... Moved by how considerate he was, she set out to find him a match among the daughters of noble families. But the young general lowered his eyes and said, word by word, “The man who was betrothed to you back then was me!”
