Late Tang Dynasty: Starting from Guiyi in Hexi

After Tianbao in the late Tang Dynasty, thousands of miles of rivers and mountains in Hexi fell into the hands of Tubo. They were occupied for hundreds of years. The Han people were humiliated and their clothes, rituals and music were almost cut off. Zhang Yichao, a young man from a prominent family in Shazhou, had witnessed the loss of his homeland and the abuse of his compatriots since he was a child. When Tubo was in civil strife, the royal power collapsed, and the defenses in Hexi were empty, Zhang Yichao seized the golden opportunity, resolutely gathered people to act righteously, and drove out the captives in the troubled times. Using the isolated city as his base, he moved to the Gobi Desert, sweeping through the Tibetan defenders along the way and regaining control of several states in Hexi. In troubled times, the journey was difficult and dangerous. He sent envoys several times to rush to Chang'an through desperate situations. After suffering many casualties and destruction, he finally submitted a surrender letter to the Tang Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty was shaken, and he was enthroned as a rebel. Zhang Yichao was stationed in Hexi. He defended the Tubo bandits and the Uighurs from the outside, repaired agriculture and mulberry trees at home, revived Han rituals, appeased all ethnic groups, regained Liangzhou, unified the four thousand miles of Hexi lost land, and recreated the prosperity of Western Xinjiang in the late Tang Dynasty. However, due to his great achievements, the imperial court became more and more jealous. In order to reassure the emperor and his ministers and protect the people of Hexi Province, Zhang Yichao, in his later years, gave up his foundation of thousands of miles and entered the court alone as a pledge. He spent half his life exploring the border with iron and blood, spent half his life in Beijing, and finally died in Chang'an. The book is based on the tragic songs of troubled times, interpreting the legendary life of a generation of lonely and loyal generals who defied the odds and returned to the frontier and pledged their lives to the country, telling the story of the helplessness and daring loyalty of the troubled times of the late Tang Dynasty.
