Looking Northwest, Jin Yuguang

From the deep home of the Republic of China to the new China, from war and displacement to the spring breeze of reform, the life of a woman and an old man spanned 88 years. The story begins in 1934 and ends in 2021. The protagonist is "Luo Jinyu", a Chinese woman who grew up in the cracks of the times. I hope that my words can lay out a picture of a woman's life spanning nearly 90 years, from the traditional boudoir to the vast world, from being defined to self-defining. She has experienced war, famine, revolution and prosperity, and witnessed China rising from ruins and becoming prosperous and powerful amidst turmoil. The work is based on real prototypes, but I cannot define it as a complete personal biography. Perhaps, it is more like a footnote of an era. It is not a grand narrative, but uses fragments of individual experiences to piece together the true temperature and texture of history. This is not a heroic epic, but a history of an ordinary woman's struggle to find herself and protect her dignity in the torrent of history. When she looked back on her life, all she had loved, lost, endured, and resisted had become immortal light in the river of time.
