Moving Forward in the Turbulent Waves

This is a documentary novel that reflects the current of the times through the fate of individuals. The whole book spans sixty years, Using a multi-voice narrative intertwined with first-person fragments such as letters, diaries, and QQ logs, the third-person panoramic view is dedicated to all those born in the 1960s and 1970s who are floating in the tide of the times through the ups and downs of Dong Mingsen's life. The first volume, "Trapped and Germinating," goes back to 1962-1980. In the years when hunger spread, the Dong family struggled to survive on the collective land. It shows the unique tenacity and warmth of that era. The second volume focuses on "Agitation and Fall" (1980 to 1990. The dividends of reform and opening up allowed Dong Mingsen to counterattack for a time, but he also lost himself in the abyss of desire and was ruined. The novel cleverly uses diaries and letters to record his short-lived glory in administration, and reproduces the anxious mental journey of an individual struggling on the edge of morality. The third volume, "Drifting and Redemption," writes about the cost of suffering from 1990 to 2003. Dong Mingsen fell to the bottom of his life. After returning to his hometown, he began to struggle at the bottom for thirteen years. The wife's tailoring skills became the backbone of the family. This volume uses diary fragments to reflect Mingsen's guilt and family fragmentation in a cold writing style. The fourth volume, "Transformation and Return," continues from 2003 to the present. Dong Mingsen entered a central enterprise and relied on his writing skills to survive within the system and witnessed the changes in the reform of state-owned enterprises. After retiring, he became a delivery man, looking for his destination in the accumulation of time. The book uses current essays and narrations to intertextualize past experiences. The ending is intertwined with the warmth of a distant relative and the desolation of not being able to return to my hometown.
