Two Cities Away

In youth, there is always one person who amazes the time, but after all, cannot be gentle with each other for the rest of their lives. The story takes place in Jiangquan Road High School in Tianjin. The first time Zhu Yi noticed Sang Yao was before the red list of the monthly exam - his name was always ranked first, and perfect scores in science were commonplace. Later, they became roommates, from discussing Newton's second law to exchanging problem-solving ideas late at night, from the closing music in the library to the dim street lights on Jiangquan Road. He was the smartest and quietest boy she had ever met, and she was the only exception to which he was willing to open up. Everyone said they were a perfect academic couple made in heaven. After the college entrance examination, Sang Yao went to the top university in Beijing, while Zhu Yi stayed in Tianjin. At first I thought that the 30-minute high-speed rail between Beijing and Tianjin could defeat everything, but I found that some distances cannot be measured geographically. The separation is not because of lack of love, but the most helpless thing in youth - we have become better people, but we are no longer the ones who belong to each other. It was many years later that Zhu Yi understood that he was her best friend, the best encounter in her youth, and the fulfillment she had to let go of.
