In the troubled times of the Mid-Tang Dynasty, feudal vassals and towns were separatist, and the political parties were fighting. The remaining warmth of the prosperous times had dissipated, and the literary and official circles were in turmoil. Yuan Zhen, a young man who was born into a family of down-and-out officials, broke through with his astonishing talent. At a young age, he became famous in Beijing. Together with Bai Juyi, he was called "Yuan Bai". He created a new style of Yuanhe style poetry and dominated the literary world of the Mid-Tang Dynasty for decades.
