Late Ming Dynasty: from Wen Ling to General Guarding the Pass

In the last years of Chongzhen's reign, Lin Yan, the magistrate of Yunchuan County, a small town in northern Xinjiang, used a fake empty city to lure the Tatars into the city to ambush them. With three hundred villagers' bravery, he repelled thousands of barbarian soldiers. He abandoned his writing skills and put on military uniforms, training troops and building defenses in troubled times, guarding borders and protecting refugees, and single-handedly held up a world in the storms of the late Ming Dynasty.
