This Incense Is Cursed

A stubborn stone absorbed the essence of the sun and moon, then was appointed by the Heavenly Court as the mountain god of Qingwu Mountain. It seemed like a stroke of good fortune, but in truth, he had been sent to his death. Qingwu Mountain was riddled with sinister lairs and overrun by demons and ghosts. The previous sixteen mountain gods had all been abandoned as sacrificial offerings to fill the holes. He was merely the seventeenth lamb sent to slaughter.

The evil creature sealed within the mountain poisoned the incense offerings. Absorb them, and they would corrode his soul and make him fall from divinity; refuse them, and his divine power would wither away. The laws of the Heavenly Court were shackles: abandon his post and heavenly lightning would strike him down; fail to gather enough incense, and he would be executed according to the law. Three great demon kings carved up the mountain, while sects beyond it watched hungrily. And he himself, too, harbored a shocking secret.

Lu Ya began as a lowly wild god who didn’t even own a pair of shoes and could barely speak coherently. He used his divine seal to suppress demons and survived on poisoned incense, made the demon kings his allies, and accumulated merit to break through his limits. He rose to become a City God, fought heavenly soldiers, broke into ancient tombs, and forged a divine nature, tearing back the truth step by step.

The divine path stretches on without end. Either be a pawn of the Heavenly Court, or become your own god!
