Even Ordinary People Can Journey to the West

With a broken bowl and a talent for spinning tall tales, I set out on a journey west. There are no gods, Buddhas, demons, or System in this world. It leaves behind the divine machinations and System gimmicks of traditional Journey to the West stories. The so-called monsters are nothing but bandits, and the so-called immortals are just local bullies. Along the way, I picked up an unruly, cheeky monkey, a lazy little piglet, and an honest, simple-minded Sha Wujing. With nothing but my silver tongue, I talked the three of them into joining me on the journey. We crossed the original Eighty-One Tribulations, then faced countless new ones of my own devising. The journey west had far more than eighty-one tribulations: perhaps one hundred and eighty-one, or even two hundred and eighty-one. When I returned from the journey west, I would personally invent the tale of our adventures, creating the Journey to the West that later generations would pass down.
