Fireworks and Family, Volume 1

An old man’s lonely twilight years. His wife is gone, and the companions closest to him are the tabby cat and yellow dog she raised while she was alive. His older brother is often ill, and the family’s hopes rest on their only nephew. But the boy is slow-witted, and it is hard to say whether he can bring hope to this wretched family. The old man has an indomitable spirit. What gives him the courage to carry on is his concern for his sick older brother and his nephew. How long can he hold on? What can he possibly change? Even he doesn’t know. Yet he feels it is his duty, and shoulders the burden of supporting the family alone. In the end, the old man dies in the wilderness, his soul returning to a foreign land. It is enough to bring anyone to tears!
