My Days Fixing Bugs at the Procuratorate

Chen Mo, 25, holds a master’s degree from a university of political science and law. On his first day at the municipal procuratorate, a voice rings out in his mind

[The Lawful Eye has been activated]

Case analysis, psychological insight, evidence searches, courtroom assistance: this thing, which calls itself the “Lawful Eye,” can break down every case into data, probabilities, and chains of evidence.

From a con artist who disguises himself as a woman, to a highly intelligent criminal who exploits loopholes in the law; from a silent child victim, to a 79-year-old mother who drinks pesticide on Lunar New Year’s Eve; from the “principal” who incites crimes at the “hunting ground,” to a veteran procurator who fell during a pursuit eight years ago

Three years, five volumes, twenty-three cases.

The System can help him find evidence, but it can’t find the man who manipulated girls into stealing and got away scot-free. The System can analyze legal statutes, but it can’t make sense of the girl who was slammed against a door and killed by her own mother.

The law is a series of lines of code.

“There is no truth, only evidence.” That is Chen Mo’s catchphrase. But as he stands outside the courthouse, watching the child rescued from a pit smile at him, he thinks: perhaps there are things that need no evidence.
