A Stormy Marriage

A novel about a stormy marriage. It mainly describes the poignant love story of the heroine Su Xiaofeng. Her two sisters are victims of mercenary marriage. And she yearns for a beautiful love life, refuses to bow to fate, and fights against buying and selling marriage. The story is divided into two parts. The first part describes her first love. Her mother was very stubborn. The matchmaker came to propose marriage eight times but was rejected because the man could not afford the bride price. Later, her mother proposed that Xiaofeng would be free to marry as long as she bought five popular items for the family: bicycle, watch, sewing machine, handcart, and radio. Xiaofeng worked from dawn to dusk to knit bedspreads for Soviet experts to earn some craft fees. My mother bought five large items but regretted not fulfilling her promise. Xiaofeng delayed finding a partner until she was 29, and married a college student whose wife had died and had two daughters. The story has twists and turns, is beautiful and intriguing, but ends in tragedy. It is a period novel suitable for reading by the old, middle and young generations.
