My Entire Family Is Loyal to the Death: My Deathbed Remonstrance Brings Qin Shi Huang to Tears

Li Ran transmigrates to the Qin Dynasty in the thirty-fifth year of the First Emperor’s reign. The System gives him the strangest mission imaginable: successfully get himself killed, and he can return to where he came from with the ultimate reward. Fortunately, Qin law is harsh, and Li Ran has a hundred spare bodies and a pain-blocking cheat. And so, a series of “death relays” unfolds in the Xianyang Palace, making the ministers’ scalps crawl and driving Ying Zheng into a rage: Eldest brother Li Ran: He kicks over an alchemy furnace in public, swallows a heavy-metal elixir to expose the alchemists’ scam, then calmly accepts being sliced in half as Ying Zheng roars. Second brother Li Ran: Wearing mourning clothes, he strides straight into court and denounces the Epang Palace project for draining the people’s resources, then offers his neck for execution, splattering blood across the Qilin Hall. Third brother Li Ran: He rails against the law of collective punishment, forcing the First Emperor to reluctantly have him flogged and exiled. Even Zhao Gao, lurking in the shadows, is so frightened that he calls off his assassination plan. Li Ran thinks he has this one in the bag, but after killing him a few times, things start to take a turn. Late one night, Ying Zheng reviews the events and sighs as he strokes his sword: “Every member of the Li family is a pillar of the state. They would give their lives to keep Great Qin alive. If I refuse them, how can I face their loyal spirits?” So the First Emperor halts construction of the Epang Palace and issues an edict granting the Li family an hereditary fief. He even becomes the most enthusiastic “top supporter” of Li Ran’s death-seeking antics. When Li Ran returns to Nanyang in his fifth body, he plans to stir up trouble and get himself killed again. But the potatoes he casually tosses into the fields quadruple the harvest, and the curved-shaft plow he develops becomes a miraculous invention. Even the commoners oppressed by Qin law rally like a black tide, charging the fortified manors to protect him, their “upright official.” Li Ran: “Tyrant, please, just kill me already!” Ying Zheng: “My dear minister Li, don’t talk nonsense. I intend to share this empire that will last for all ages with you!”
