Clear Homophony: the Story of Eagle Learning in the Sky

"When I was in elementary school, everyone read aloud in unison, with loud and clear voices and crisp homophones. By junior high school, things seemed to be a little different." Ou Lanyu's confusion is the core metaphor throughout the entire story. In "Eagle Sky Academy", an academy for able-bodied students from more than ten countries with family backgrounds ranging from the working class to the political elite, the "difference" of voices goes beyond reading aloud. There is the sense of superiority of the Beijing accent, the silence of the Southeast Asian accent, the cultural conflicts in transnational group work, and the class barriers behind factional struggles. The story unfolds from the perspective of young girls such as Bai Qiying, Nangong Xinrui, Ou Lanyu, and Liu Yitong, depicting how they face the dilemmas of identity, social boundaries, competitive pressure, and cross-cultural understanding during the sensitive stage of adolescence. When a LV4 psychic ability user began to secretly interfere with the school's interpersonal network, amplifying everyone's suspicion, dependence, and aggression, the girls had to rediscover the boundaries between themselves and others in the chaos. This is not a super-power fighting novel, but a realistic group portrait that uses "ability" as a mirror to reflect the loneliness, struggle and growth of contemporary teenagers under the elite education system.
