In the not-too-distant future, an immersive digital consciousness game called "Apocalypse" comes out. It can read the player's deep memory and generate a virtual world that is highly bound to the player's past. The protagonist Lin Shen is a game tester. He discovers that there is a self-evolving "awakening code" at the bottom of the game - some NPCs begin to have autonomous consciousness.
