Cherry Blossoms Beneath the Smoke of War

1937. Jinling, engulfed in flames of war. It was the darkest page in the history of the Chinese people, and the beginning of a desperate struggle fought in blood by countless heroes. Long Zhan, a young officer recently returned from studying in Japan, had once attended the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in Tokyo beneath drifting cherry blossoms. There he had nurtured youthful dreams and dedicated himself to studying tactics, determined to build a strong army and serve his country. But when the iron hooves of war shattered the peace of his homeland, he donned his uniform and took up his rifle, leaving the beauty of the cherry blossoms for the brutality of gun smoke. Former classmates became deadly enemies on the battlefield, and his old school became a frontline base for invasion. Bearing the agony of a shattered nation, Long Zhan fought back against all odds amid the ruins and street battles of Nanjing, becoming the Japanese army's most dreaded nightmare: the “Wolf of the Last Stand.” Beyond this brutal war, another cherry blossom was destined to fall. Japanese girl Emiko came to China with a simple, kind heart and hopes for the future. She knew nothing of politics or war. All she knew was the gracious Long Zhan who had once stood beneath the cherry blossoms. But the flames of war crushed every tender feeling. When she stood on the enemy's side and faced the Chinese soldier whose eyes were bloodshot from killing, the cherry blossoms in her eyes were instantly stained red. On one side stood the soldier's spirit, ready to defend his homeland and fight to the bitter end. On the other was a love between a man and a woman that could not be severed, even by war. Beneath the smoke-filled skies of Jinling, how will Long Zhan protect the people when all hope seems lost? How can cherry blossoms coexist with the smoke of war? Set in 1937, this is an epic tale of hatred, redemption, and doomed love.
