The Martial World of Yanyun

Yanyun Martial World is a wuxia novel set during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. The story follows Cheng Xiaonan, later renamed Lin Xiaonan, as he seeks revenge for his master, the great swordsman Jian Chi. It also follows the young hero Feng Qingping as he protects an unparalleled manual of spear techniques, while uncovering a conspiracy in the martial world that has spanned more than a decade. Cheng Xiaonan is poisoned with the strange toxin Phoenix Pill. The Poison-Handed Medicine King, Shangguan Lian, treats him. To save his life, Cheng is forced to be castrated, and he inherits a peerless art that takes his martial skills to the pinnacle. After leaving the valley, Cheng follows a blood letter from Master Jingkong to investigate the truth. The letter reveals that Jingkong, a monk of the present-day Shaolin Temple, is actually Shangguan Yun, Shangguan Lian’s son, in disguise. The tragedy that befell Medicine King Valley ten years ago and Jian Chi’s death were both parts of a carefully plotted conspiracy to seize half of the evil art, Five Poisons Divine Palm, recorded in the Medicine King’s Notes. Cheng Xiaonan exposes Shangguan Yun in front of everyone at Shaolin Temple, then joins forces with Feng Qingping to overthrow the tyrant. As their investigation deepens, every clue points to Zhuang Changhong, leader of the powerful Heroes’ Association. To master Five Poisons Divine Palm and dominate the martial world, Zhuang once conspired with Poison-Handed Medicine King’s junior sister, Madam Chen. Together, they massacred Medicine King Valley and framed Shangguan Lian. Later, to seize the secret manual, Zhuang murdered Xiahou Shang, leader of the Yanshan Sect, the great hero Qiu Jianghe, who had assumed the identity of Daoist Deyi, and others. He also secretly supported Zhu Yougui’s patricide and usurpation of the throne. In the end, Lin Xiaonan, having attained the pinnacle of martial arts, faces Zhuang Changhong in a cataclysmic showdown. He succeeds in killing the chief villain, but dies himself from his poison wounds and the backlash of his divine art. He entrusts his final wish, that his senior sister, the Heroine of Falling Blossoms, care for his child. The story ends with a tender memory of the three masters and disciples practicing swordsmanship together, leaving behind the bleak image of an era’s end and a legend’s passing, along with a glimmer of hope for the future.
