This book continues the hard-core cosmology and cold rational tone of "The Three-Body Problem" and tells the story of the human interstellar federation encountering the ultimate cleanup of the galaxy's high-level "Arbiter Civilization" 127 years after the Deterrence Era. In a universe where the laws of the dark forest have never failed, humankind has been exposed due to interstellar expansion, and ushered in a dimensional war using directional dimensionality reduction, vacuum decay, and high-dimensional expansion.
