Yanmen Pass: the Figure That Has Gone and Never Returned

Documentary director Shen Nianwei came to Yanmen Pass to film the story of post soldiers in the Ming Dynasty, and met Zhang Yan, a restoration engineer. In the diary discovered by archaeologists, they uncovered the tragic past of Zhang Shuan'er, a postman who died on the road four hundred years ago when delivering an edict in the snow, as well as the regret that his fiancée Ah Yue had hidden the prescription in a letter of divorce and had not opened the letter until she died. As the exploration deepened, more forgotten ordinary people surfaced: Su Niang, who had a crush on Zhang Shuaner, never married and adopted the orphan Zhou Jizhong; Zhou Jizhong died in a flash flood after rescuing people, and the rescued adopted a son to continue his bloodline... Shen Nianwei and Zhang Yan discovered that each other was actually the descendant of these historical figures. Together, they built a memorial garden for their ancestors who had been waiting for their whole lives, so that their four hundred years of perseverance would be remembered. During the snowstorm and root-seeking journey, the two fell in love and held their wedding at Daizhao Bridge. Their son was named Zhang Ji, continuing the stories and spirit of their ancestors.
