A Millennium of Silk

For a thousand years, Qinglan has hidden in the capital, guarding books from generation to generation and passing down the fragrance of ink.

The Shen family has a daughter named Qingci, whose slender-gold calligraphy adorns slips tucked among the books.

By chance, she ventures into the literary world and meets Shi Yan, gentle as jade, with a sharp edge kept concealed.

For twenty years, a baton has rested against her spine; a magnolia hairpin above her head binds her heart to his.

When they first met, she did not recognize the face of spring. Aboard a night boat, they weathered the frost together.

Stone lions gaze at each other, bound by a thousand-year vow. They will never forget the rain falling on withered lotus leaves.

Fifteen autumns have passed since the old rains of Tangxi; one day, the snow clears and the light breaks through.

They pass on the family craft, shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, protecting the world of books.

Their parents sit across from each other in the warmth of steaming tea, while a letter home for Qingming speaks of all that has happened.

They guard the books, their hearts, and a promise; through the long years, they share the peace of Chang'an beneath the setting sun.

Their thousand-year bond is not in vain. From now on, the whole world is home.
