He Comes from the Forest

The day Lin Qing was brought to the Anomalous Affairs Bureau, everyone thought he was an ordinary human with an ability that had yet to awaken.

He ate nothing and drank only water. When he pressed his hand against a roadside tree, it trembled. Metal he touched returned to the color of raw ore. The test report read: Spiritual energy affinity unknown. Observation recommended.

No one knew he was the final words left behind after the forest died.

The city was expanding, artificial forests were spreading, and the spiritual cores of fae were being extracted as fuel for virtual-realm technology. Humanity wanted a forest without danger.

But Lin Qing only wanted the three-hundred-year-old locust tree to live.

Later, someone asked him, “Whose side are you on?”

He said, “I’m on the side of the roots.”
