Naruto: Embers

The embers fell upon Konoha amid blood and fire. He transmigrated with only a hazy grasp of the plot, becoming an orphan caught between the fronts of war.

His awakened hyper-sensitive perception was a blade that kept him alive, but also a lifelong shackle. He could see the paths of chakra and glimpse the killing intent in people's hearts, but had to endure pain ten times over and relive nightmares of his death every night, until his eyes gradually went blind and his organs were damaged.

Amid his loneliness, he met Asano Yuki. That gentle green light of medical ninjutsu was the only light in his cruel shinobi world. They comforted each other and promised to leave the conflicts behind after the war, but they could not escape conspiracies and sudden attacks.

To protect him, she took a fatal Wind Release attack, becoming a scar in his heart that would never fade.

He knew of Rinne Rebirth and Impure World Reincarnation. Driven by the hazy conviction of a transmigrator, he traveled across nations in search of a way to bring her back, unaware that his incomplete memories concealed the cruelest deception:

When they reunited through Impure World Reincarnation, she was only an empty shell, without soul or awareness, capable only of mechanically reciting medical instructions. It was during the Fourth Great Ninja War that he finally understood: that forbidden jutsu could never bring back the soul of someone who had been dead for nine years.

His comrades were all gone, and every last light had gone out. Standing on the battlefield of the Fourth Great Ninja War, he used his perception to protect countless lives, yet could not preserve the last trace of warmth in his heart.

Peace arrived, and the world rejoiced. Only he remained, keeping watch over a lonely grave, living on alone in irreversible agony, reduced to an ember burned to ash.

“I knew the plot, I knew life and death, yet there was one thing I could never see through: my obsession with you was always doomed to be in vain.”
