72 Hours Battling the Flood

In the summer of 2015, torrential rain ravages Yicun in Jiangsu. Rivers rise, and the levees are in danger of collapsing. Chen Deshui, a water conservancy expert in his seventies, clings to tradition and advocates using wooden waterwheels to fight the flood. His son, Chen Mingyuan, the head of the local water conservancy station, champions efficient mechanized drainage. But his grandson, Chen Xiaofeng, believes in scientific forecasting and an intelligent system upstream. Their three generations’ ideas collide as the village teeters on the brink of disaster. At the most critical moment, they lead the whole village in an astonishing decision: reinforce the levees with their ancestors’ gravestones! Tradition and modernity come together: Chen Deshui rallies the villagers to power the waterwheels, Chen Mingyuan directs the machinery, and Xiaofeng optimizes the intelligent drainage system. ... In the end, this epic battle against the flood reflects the fusion of tradition and technology in China’s modernization. Using gravestones as a foundation, passing on wisdom, and giving waterwheels new life, it reveals the Chinese people’s spirit of courage and perseverance, as well as the power of reviving intangible cultural heritage!
