Searching for Guli

Jiang Nan, a travel blogger at a loss about what to do with her life, meets Ni Ailian, an old educated youth heading to Xinjiang to find her daughter. The two set off west along National Highway 312 in a tiny camper converted from an electric tricycle, relying on each other even as they use one another. Guided by Granny Ni’s jumbled memories, they visit one Production and Construction Corps farm after another, revisiting years of hardship and witnessing the beauty of Xinjiang today.
