In Love with Her

We’d been married for three years, and I was perfectly content with our life. My husband was handsome, rich, gentle, considerate, and emotionally steady. He had never raised his voice at me or argued with me. Then I saw my usually reserved, mild-mannered husband pin his one true love against a wall and demand angrily, “You chose to marry someone else back then. What right do you have to make demands of me now?!” Only then did I realize that when he truly loved someone, he was passionate and intense. I did the sensible thing: divorced him and disappeared without a trace. People said Fu Qichuan had gone mad, that he wanted to dig up all of Jiangcheng just to find me. How could someone so composed and self-controlled possibly go crazy, especially over an insignificant ex-wife like me? Later, he saw me standing beside another man and clutched my wrist, eyes bloodshot, pleading humbly, “A Ruan, I was wrong. Will you come back?” That was when I realized the rumors weren’t exaggerated. He really had gone mad.
