The Whole Family’s Beloved: Manbao at Five and a Half

Manbao was adopted by the Zhou family and called a burden and a jinx. She never had enough to eat or warm clothes to wear, and one winter she was even thrown out of the house. She could only watch in timid silence, clutching her pet black cat like a pitiful little thing. Just as she was about to die, her three powerful uncles arrived and took her home. What they didn't know was that the black cat by Manbao's side could actually talk. Whenever her uncles ran into trouble, they somehow turned disaster into good fortune, and their luck kept getting better. At first, everyone mocked them. Then they were amazed to discover that Manbao was a little lucky charm. Finally, a man of lofty status appeared from nowhere and, holding Manbao, kissed her forehead in a sudden show of affection. Everyone was left utterly dumbfounded and trembling with fear. “Manbao, I'm your father.”
