Starting in a Turbid World, the Daoist Master Descends the Mountain

The Great Xin Republic: the Five Turbidities descend upon the world! The Northern Horse Immortals’ calamity strikes beyond the passes. Warlords clash, and the people are plunged into misery; Esoteric teachings from the West lose their way, evil ghosts break out of their prisons, and hearts fill with fear; The cities of the mountains and rivers vanish. Remnants of the former dynasty and heretical doctrines rise everywhere; Evil spirits from the Southern Seas break their seals, witchcraft and curses run rampant, and people become living furnaces! In the thirteenth year of the Great Xin Republic, Lin Ye transmigrates to Qingshi Town and becomes a disciple of the Daoist Lin Zheng. Though he is a disciple of the Shangqing School, known for its talismans, why does he feel so unlike an ordinary Daoist? “You recite your sect’s Scripture of Purity and Ease. Qi and blood +1!” “You use Daoist arts to deliver an evil spirit. Contemplate the Ape’s Back-Through Diagram and comprehend the Ape Strike Technique!” “You complete the Daoist ordination rite and receive the Complete Guide to Transforming Force!” He is clearly a Daoist, so why are his rewards always about fighting? Many years later, Lin Ye inscribes demon-subduing talismans on both arms and slays a Japanese demon at sea; He turns thunder techniques into force that flows through his meridians, destroying three winged Daoist patriarchs on Mount Longhu; He stores the Maoshan Troops-and-Horses Altar within his primordial spirit and suppresses the corrupt Buddha Head on Purple Gold Mountain. “I may not know the Daoist scriptures, but I do know a few things about throwing punches and kicks.”
