Immersive Crime Scene Replays Made Me the Police Force's Favorite

[I Hunt Criminals Through an Immersive Killer’s Perspective, but I’m Only Solving Cases for a Steady Paycheck]

Ruan Yu, a mural artist who was dead but not entirely dead, came back to life with a useless golden finger: [Immersive Crime-Scene Replay], which could expose any doubter’s delusions.

Every time a crime took place, she got a crystal-clear, full-length replay of exactly how it was done.

The weapon felt cold, the methods were deranged, and the immersion was intense... but afterward, she could barely stomach a meal.

At first, the police said, “You know way too much. Maybe you’re the killer! Put the cuffs on her!”

Later, they said, “We’re stuck again. Teacher Ruan, we’ve got your milk tea ready. When can you ‘immerse’ yourself in the case?”

To stop the threat of unemployment from hunting her down, Ruan Yu decisively latched onto the police. “Want to work together? I’ll ‘help’ the killer remember the details of the crime, and you give me benefits and a pension.”

Until one day, a familiar pattern at the latest crime scene made her pupils contract.

The milk tea in her hand hit the ground with a clatter.

The precise angle of a throat-slitting, the technique used to dismember a body, the fuel ratios for arson...

They were clearly cold-blooded exercises in the same criminal “craft,” adapted to different scenes. Could they all have had the same “mentor”?

A blue-collar survival story about solving crimes. Once I started seeing things from the killer’s perspective, both my paycheck and I panicked.
