Thoughts on reading "Cthulhu Mythos Collection"
I have finished reading a book, or some stories. The book is titled "Cthulhu Mythos Collection", written by H. P. Lovecraft, translated by Xiong Yao, Cheng Runrun, and Fan Juan, and published by Chongqing University Press. It contains many Cthulhu horror stories. As for the reason for reading this book, it is exactly the same as mentioned in the preface: "The giant octopus in the underwater city" has become one of the famous "memes" in contemporary popular culture. Whether in the field of games, movies, animations or texts, it has appeared in games, movies, animations or text fields. It has received high reviews and been widely praised. It seems that every creator can't wait to play with it, but his wish has been fulfilled. However, I have reservations about the next paragraph in the preface - on the other hand, if you have never seen it or heard it before, you are really ignorant (so you should "make up for it"!). The main reason is that when I read this book, I was not immersed in the content of the story. Instead, I often went out and thought about whether the characters' actions were reasonable. Is the plot arrangement appropriate? It's hard to find the highlights and recommend it to others. Of course, it must be stated in advance that this does not mean that the storytelling or the story is not good. Because in my opinion, this non-war crime is a huge gap between two eras and a gap between two civilizations. There is no need and should not be so harshly evaluated. The above can be regarded as a stack of armor and the basis of criticism. Let's start here one by one. First, there is a tendency of homogeneity in the narrative mode. Generally speaking, anomalies are discovered first, and then they are bravely investigated and tried to solve, which makes the legendary horrors come true offline. After a thrilling struggle, the world finally survives the huge crisis. But don't be happy, the threat has not been eliminated, it is just a break between two waves of "offensive". This kind of narrative model has been seen too many times now. What was refreshing at the time has become an old routine now. This is regrettable, just like after the game has been updated to several major versions, you invite your old friends to go online again and start a game again. In order to prove that their swords are not old, everyone chooses their own hero, and then gradually begins to lose sight of it. First, they can't recognize the avatar of the opponent's hero, and then they find that the skills of the hero in their hand have been changed. Finally, they are wiped out by the gorgeous special effects of the skills that fill the opponent's screen. It is not a crime of war. The second is the conflict between plot logic and contemporary cognition. Whether the protagonist is a passer-by who stumbles into chaos or is the source of tragedy, they always have blind bravery or exaggerate their willpower and abilities. Whether out of curiosity, a sense of responsibility, or something else, the protagonist will "bravely" break into anomalies, such as renting a house that is hated by the villagers, not caring about the tragic deaths of previous tenants, refusing to ask for help from the outside world because he is worried about the ridicule of others, and worrying that he may fail without leaving any hints or backup plans. The character setting combines American personal heroism with a stereotypical influence on the incompetent government and ignorant public. In short, the way the characters in the work deal with crises, such as coping in isolation, avoiding the society or the government for help, etc., Deviate from the modern social collaboration mechanism and common sense of risk management. Suddenly I realized that the same is true for current American movies, especially those disaster movies, in which there is always a destined hero, an incompetent government, and a group of ignorant people who need redemption. Well, this difference can only be tolerated. After all, it is the "American body odor" that is infiltrated into the bones and cannot be concealed (I am still a bit too mean). The third is the concretization of horror imagery and the dissolution of mystery. The descriptions in the book focus too much on physical abnormalities, such as stench, yellow-green slime, rotten furniture, and strange facial features and body shapes. This would make me imagine it as an octopus monster, or the unhygienic kind. A great evil god, the master of all things, and the center of the universe has become a tangible and tangible thing. When the god has already lit up his health bar, why not try throwing a stone? If a small one doesn't work, use a larger one; if the stone doesn't hurt, use iron or lead; if your hand strength is weak, use it to light the gunpowder. What's more, the evil god's residence is made of stone and is powerless after being submerged by the sea. Can these things really withstand the firepower of a large-caliber naval gun emptying ammunition without being injured? Of course, when I think of this, I have to remind myself that I shouldn't be so harsh. This is the generation gap of the times, and we shouldn't breed arrogance from this. Since the story was written, the entire material and spiritual world has changed tremendously. Things and assumptions that were attractive at the time may have been eliminated or falsified by now, which people at the time would not have expected. Or if you think about it from another perspective, if you go back to the past, there is not much chance of change. After all, there are not many myths in today's era, and they cannot be easily solved. All in all, due to the limitations of materialism and spirituality in this era, people today naturally feel the same when looking at the ancients as future generations look at today's people. Therefore, I don't want to be so mean to others, just as I don't want others to be so mean to me (but I can't help but complain, forget it, just scold me, the worst is to be an ostrich, love it). So I am here to recommend a book, or rather a story, and there are many chapters in it that I can read. For example, "Dream of Unknown Karas" describes a vivid and wonderful dream world, which is enough to carry a magnificent adventure story. The blank space at the end of the protagonist's ending in "The Shadow over Innsmouth" also made me think a lot. Although limited by the times, although the conditions of the Antarctic continent in "At the Mountains of Madness" are no longer trustworthy, the various details and foreshadowing are still very appropriate. Let's recommend another book, as mentioned in the preface: This book contains most of the longer chapters and more than half of the core chapters... It provides a relatively complete way to understand the backbone of the Cthulhu mythology, and is of immeasurable value, especially for improving the appreciation taste of new readers.
It's more important to go to school
Half an hour early, I went out to school, walking on the street, and suddenly looked to the right. The sky that was not completely blocked by the houses was dotted with floating islands, ranging from the soil to the trees, which were all squares. Am I playing MC? Am I not in school? I looked down at the street. It was painted in a realistic style, with no squares and no pixels. On both sides of the road were low, pointed houses with red tile roofs and wooden walls. I guess a witch lived inside, but no one came out, so I'm not sure. Looking back to the sky, it was still the same square. It was definitely not an illusion, because I zoomed in on the picture by staring and saw more details. They were dirt squares with the same texture. I even suspected that I had eaten fungi, but my thinking was not hindered and my actions were not restricted. Nothing to do, school is important. Going through the food stalls along the street, you will find an avocado seller on the left. The fruit is cut horizontally, revealing the underdeveloped grape inside. The fruit is as big as the seed. The fruit is sold before it is ripe. No wonder there is no one in front of the shop. Suddenly I smelled a very fragrant smell, and a person walked by on the right, carrying a bag of bread, which was probably the source of the smell. I suddenly remembered that I hadn't had breakfast yet, so I raised my hand and glanced at my watch. It was still half an hour before the bell rang. It doesn't matter, I just went out and it's too late to go back now. Then? Then I woke up from the dream, brushed my teeth and washed my face, sat at the table and ate millet porridge with sesame seed cakes. I took the time to record the dream. The computer was already turned on. After dinner, I wanted to play MC.
