Held Back for Six Years, I Contracted a Female Ghost Who Was the Daughter of a God

My name is Ji Mingyu. I’m a terrible student, and my classmates have dubbed me the academic world’s village guardian. Six years. I’ve been held back six times in all, and I still haven’t managed to graduate. My classmates have already become Level Four disaster responders. I still can’t form a contract, as if Heaven has forgotten me. I haven’t even come close to meeting the requirements. Then one day, I handed a piece of spirit-rice cake to a pitiful, starving ghost at the station. I never imagined that the fated contract that was six years overdue would take effect without a sound. And so I heard: “Can I come home with you?” My name is Bai Linzhi. I’m a little hungry ghost, starving ever since I first gained consciousness. I’ve never eaten a thing. I tried doing good deeds to earn people’s offerings, but nothing ever worked. The other ghosts mocked me, saying I was a cursed spirit doomed by the gods, unable to enjoy offerings and without a contract master. Eventually, all my companions found homes, bonded with powerful contract masters, and enjoyed their offerings. As for me, I could only stand there all alone, staring on helplessly. As time passed, the years slowly wore away my lovely face. Left utterly alone, I became a weathered wandering spirit. I thought I’d live out my days like that, vanishing from the world sometime in the next century. Until one day, someone gave me a piece of spirit-rice cake. That was when I discovered I could eat. The spirit-rice cake tasted wonderful, beyond anything words could describe. I thought he must be the companion Heaven had arranged for me, so I took the initiative and formed a contract with him. To my surprise, it worked. I was delighted, and didn’t mind that he was weak. But after we formed the contract, I discovered that everything I ate could increase both our strength... Some old geezer in the Upper Realm: “They finally formed the contract!”
