The Old Clock and the Flavor of Two Hometowns

In the Lingnan Bistro in San Francisco's Chinatown, there is an old clock from Foshan that is the most precious memory of the owner A Tang - it once traveled across the ocean with his father, and the bell's ringing contains the grace of Cantonese opera, as well as his father's unfulfilled wish for cultural inheritance. After A-tang took over the small restaurant, the old clock became a link between the cultures of the two hometowns: following the clock's imprint, she embarked on a journey back home with her Indian neighbor Lina, Japanese friend Snow Sato, and Xiaoya, a descendant of a Cantonese opera artist. At the old house in Foshan, she renewed the copper-coin agreement between her father and her best friend Chen Shouye, heard old tunes and new voices at the Cantonese opera club, and at the Shuangxiang Food Festival, she had a wonderful collision of tangerine peel curry and cherry blossom barbecued pork. After returning home, Ah Tang brought Foshan's cultural roots back to San Francisco: at the Cantonese Opera inheritance base, young students Li Nian and Lin Xiao integrated cherry blossom tunes into "The Peony Pavilion"; Shuangxiang Sauce Shop allowed tangerine peel and cumin to cross the mountains and seas; cloud performances and cultural festivals made the melody of the old clock spread to more corners. From San Francisco to Foshan, from the ticking of the old clock to the resonance of multiculturalism, Ah Tang proves with love and perseverance: Two hometowns are not distance, but the closeness of people's hearts; inheritance is not stubbornness, but keeping the original intention to keep the culture alive forever.
