Xuandu Sword Song

Xia said In the troubled times of ancient times, heroes must emerge. A chivalrous person is neither a person who travels to the ends of the earth with a sword alone, nor a person who only relies on the bravery of an ordinary man to do evil. Because in the troubled times, the Central Plains is sinking, Jiehu is raging, and the people are displaced. Unless there are people with great benevolence, great righteousness, great wisdom, and great courage, they are not enough to turn the tide and hold up the building that is about to collapse. Therefore, it is said: A chivalrous person takes Confucianism as his bones, his sword as his edge, his people as his thoughts, and his duty to the world. There are three realms of a husband-hero: the first is the swordsman, who can kill traitors, destroy the bandits' camp, and protect the peace of an area with a three-foot green sword. This is the knight of a common man. The second is the righteous knight, who is full of sincerity, upholds integrity, honors his promises, and dies for those who know him. This is the knight of a gentleman. The third is the knight of Confucianism, who uses classics and history as his blade, takes moral justice as his banner, regards the common people as his thoughts, and seeks the peace of the world. This is the knight of the saint. Xie Xuanyuan, a great Confucian from Jiangdong, wrote a poem titled "The pen sweeps away the haze to open up the chaos, and the sword crosses the stars to determine the universe. But with the bones of a Confucian, he carries the way of heaven and never surrenders to power." He cherishes the great righteousness of "Spring and Autumn" and masters Confucian swordsmanship. He resisted Jie Hu's call at Xuandu Temple, rescued the loyal daughter on the banks of Luoshui River, broke the siege in Xiaoshan Mountain, and formed an alliance in Wubao at Guan Pass. Although he has no military power, he uses his words as a sword and wisdom as a shield to establish himself among the rebels with many factions and mediate among the forts where they are fighting. In troubled times, morality is as thin as paper, and military power is as heavy as a mountain, but he can use Confucian bones to forge the soul of a sword, and use righteousness to gather people's hearts. How can this not be a true knight? Alas! If there are no chivalrous people in the world, the world will be in chaos; if there are no chivalrous people in the world, chivalry will perish.
