Biography of Zixu

Wu Zixu, a famous politician and military strategist in the late Spring and Autumn Period, was born in the Chu State. His father Wu She and brother Wu Shang were unjustly killed by King Ping of Chu. He suffered a blood feud and escaped to the State of Wu after going through many difficulties and dangers. He assisted King Helu of Wu in reorganizing the army and building Helu City (today's Suzhou). He recommended Sun Wu as a general and led the Wu army to attack the powerful Chu in the west. He dug up the tomb of King Ping of Chu and whipped three hundred corpses to vent his accumulated grudges. Later, he assisted King Wu Fu Chai and helped Wu defeat Yue. However, in the later period, Fu Chai was arrogant and lazy in politics and listened to slander. Wu Zixu repeatedly refused to obey and was eventually given a sword to kill himself. His life was full of ups and downs, with loyalty and righteousness intertwined with the fire of revenge. He was not only an avenger of grudges, but also a dedicated minister of the country. With his legendary life, he left a mark in the troubled times of the Spring and Autumn Period and became a symbol of loyalty and steadfastness for future generations.
