I, Fan Jin, Cultivate Immortality Through Strange Tales

I am Fan Jin, the Fan Jin who passed the imperial examination. But this world is an uncanny, romantic land of the strange, familiar yet not quite the same. In the final years of the Great Shun, humans and monsters live side by side. There are imperial examinations, too, and humans and monsters alike may take them. Those who pass can cultivate the Immortal Arts in pursuit of immortality and the Great Dao. Yet though the path to becoming an immortal is open, it is controlled by the great clans. They sit high above the clouds and, with a few words and a laugh, divide up every place on the Immortal Destiny List. I, Fan Jin, am but the son of a poor family. I have neither a fortune of ten thousand strings of cash nor powerful connections. Fortunately, I awaken the wisdom of a past life and obtain a copy of the Book of Strange Tales. All I have to do is experience strange events firsthand and fulfill the wish to punish evil, and the book will reward me: [Strange Tale: "The Fox of the Barren Mountain," reward: "Speak the Language of Birds and Beasts"] [Strange Tale: "The City God Takes a Wife," reward: "Move Mountains and Command Clouds"] [...] Immortal destiny out of reach, class barriers insurmountable? I, Fan Jin, refuse to believe it! I will turn this whole world upside down! At first, they all called me ignorant and mad, blind to the heights of the heavens and the depths of the earth. But later, they called me Lord Heavenly Official, said I was an immortal descended to the mortal realm, and begged and wept for me to don that yellow robe embroidered with dragons!
