The Old Scalper in Shimo Village

"Old Scalper in Shimo Village" tells the story of Wang Laoshuan, an old farmer in Shimo Village, and his old scalper who depend on each other and adhere to traditional farming methods.​ Under the wave of rural revitalization, a trend of "modernization" is blowing in the village: the village party secretary promotes the cultivation of high-end grapes, Erzhu transforms fertile farmland into a place for Internet celebrities to check in with plastic flowers, and urban experts provide guidance with "scientific theories". Only Wang Laoshuan guarded his three-thirds of land, held the old scalper, and farmed in the most primitive way.​ The old scalper is not only his farming partner, he is also understanding of human nature and friendship. He can protect the field mice and fight back against the arrogant city people. Wang Laoshuan used his perseverance to fight against the impetuous "new trend" - he refused to replace old scalpers with motors, opposed the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides to destroy the land, and distributed bonuses to villagers who needed them more.​ In the story, there is the collision between tradition and modernity, the contest between impetuosity and perseverance, and the deep love of the old farmers for the land. When the plastic flowers were burned and the grapevines withered in the hail, Wang Laoshuan's wheat field always produced plump fruits. In the end, the old scalper left, and Wang Laoshuan planted the elm tree, continuing his commitment to the land in another way.​ This is a hymn dedicated to the land and workers, allowing us to re-feel the down-to-earth strength and warmth in the noisy era.
