I Am a Guest in the Hell of the Living, Earning Yin Merit to Seek Immortality

Build virtue in this life, and enjoy good fortune in the next.

Have you ever died? Some things aren't as obvious as they seem!

At the end of a dynasty, the people suffered, and demons and monsters appeared in the world.

Some scraped by like ants, some enjoyed wealth inherited from their ancestors, some sought fame and fortune, and some dreamed of conquering the realm...

Shen Che transmigrated and became a wastrel young master in Great Qing. He should have enjoyed every worldly luxury, but to save his life, he joined the Patrol Office and became a night patrolman.

Night patrolmen stood watch and caught thieves. On the surface, they were low-ranking, insignificant officers, but some had a special identity: soul collectors of the Underworld Bureau.

When people died, their souls dispersed, left behind in the world of the living like trash. They were either escorted away by underworld officers or cleaned up by soul collectors. The Underworld Bureau reclaimed these souls, processed them, and sent them into the cycle of reincarnation, again and again.

Collecting souls was like scavenging. Scavenging earned worldly wealth, while collecting souls built up karmic merit in the underworld. Both wealth and merit brought benefits.

Where there are benefits, there is competition, and even monopolies can form. But Shen Che could bypass those barriers and claim his rewards directly from the Underworld Bureau.

From then on, he would build up karmic merit, trade it for extra years of life, and seek immortality.
