Northeastern Folk Songs

"Northeast Folk Songs" (Part 1) is based on the black land of Northeast China from the Anti-Japanese War to the early days of liberation. Through the ups and downs of three generations of the Yu family, it outlines a picture of the times full of blood, tears and warmth. The 12-year-old "I" unveiled the dusty family memories at my grandfather's funeral - my grandfather Yu Chongyi and my grandmother met as teenagers in the war. From the strange ancestors who traveled through Guandong to the second great-grandfather who joined the army, every character is struggling to survive in the torrent of history. The story includes the thrilling experience of hiding from the Japanese, the rise and fall of the jade trade, and also the pain and rebirth. The author restores the vividness of the Northeastern dialect and the tenacity of the black soil with delicate brushstrokes. He uses a handkerchief, a piece of stove candy, and half a jade tablet to connect the family's blood heritage, and looks for the glimmer of small people in the grand history. At the same time, I would like to write this article to remember my grandfather, record family stories, and dedicate it to the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
