Ballad of the Long River: a Centenary Story of the Loess

This is a story about the struggle and perseverance of four generations across the ages on the high slopes of the Loess. [Grandma's war and chaos] My great-grandmother's life was full of hardships—from the pain of foot binding as a child to the grief of bereavement in middle age; from the struggle to survive in natural disasters to the panic of war. However, even though her fate was so difficult, she still raised her children with tenacity and kindness, and even adopted the children of her tribe, guarding the warmth of a family in the midst of suffering. [Grandpa and grandma travel all over the country] Grandpa started from scratch and traveled all over the country to do business with a load of goods, and exchanged hard work for the family's food and clothing; grandma's bound feet once made her hobble, but they never stopped her from pouring endless love for her children and grandchildren. [Parents' Time Rings] In the 1960s and 1970s, my parents participated in collective labor in the production team. The back of my father carrying a hoe before dawn, the look of my mother cutting grass and feeding the animals, the little tune my mother sang while mending clothes for the whole family under the kerosene lamp, and the stories on the yellow land are all engraved in my memory.
