A Heartbeat in the Capital at Night

[Good girl vs. playboy] [Modern sweet romance + secret love comes true + the playboy reforms + both are romantically inexperienced] Xu Jinghuai is the law school’s most sought-after catch. He’s handsome, does well in school, comes from a good family, and has a decent character. His only flaw is that he’s not sincere in relationships. Someone like him has countless women around him and changes girlfriends constantly. Everyone says that a playboy like him will never settle down. Until years later, someone sees Xu Jinghuai waiting every day outside an institution, pleading on his knees: “Mianmian, life really is too short. Can’t you love only me?” Wen Mian has had a secret crush on Xu Jinghuai for three years and has always known what kind of person he is. She never expected anything to happen between them, but fate brought them together one rainy day. From then on, Xu Jinghuai’s presence keeps appearing in her world. He lends her his jacket and takes her back to school. When he happens to see her being harassed, he steps in to help. At a charity performance, he sits in the audience and watches her perform. Usually confident and outgoing, Wen Mian becomes timid and cautious only when she’s around Xu Jinghuai. Her friend sees through her feelings and kindly warns her, “Mianmian, you and Xu Jinghuai are from different worlds. You’re too well-behaved. He isn’t right for you.” Wen Mian knows it, but she can’t control her feelings. All she can do is write in her notebook again and again: Forget it. I like him, so I like him. Life is so long. I’m not going to like only him. Later, one afternoon after the rain, Xu Jinghuai asks Wen Mian to go for a walk. He pulls her into an empty corner and asks in a low voice, “You’re such a good little lamb. How about we date and break that rule of yours?”
